In the morning of November 8, three elephants (two male and a female) were found dead near a small lake in the heart of Novustika’s savannah. The poachers removed the fangs from the carcasses, since they are very precious for the illegal traffic of ivory, that is still present despite all the regulations of the states of UBN. Last week the local inhabitants found a dead rhino without the horn, while three weeks ago they found two other elephants’ bodies (one of them was pregnant).

Animal poaching doesn’t just affect elephants and rhinos, but also some birds and especially tigers: even if Novustika is not a country with a lot of tigers, we have some specimens that are struggling to cope with poachers. They are sold on the black market because of their fur, highly requested for its rarity and beauty, and the experts say that within a few decades they will be extinct, if the situation doesn’t change.
This is a very usual phenomenon here in Novustika, because it’s the country with the biggest amount of savannah’s wildlife; all the animal poachers that we have found and imprisoned since now were foreign people, from rich countries in UBN, where a lot of private citizens pay large sums of money for the fangs, to install them in their houses as trophies.
Some experts pointed out that a lot of elephants are now being born without fangs, because the increase of animal poaching changes the genes of some animals, forcing them to adapt in this new form. Fangs are essential for elephants, because they use them to dig in the ground to find roots and water, and they are also an important feature for sexual competition among male specimens.
Our wildlife needs to be protected, since a large number of species are endangered due to climate change, the recent growth of the population and also animal poaching.
We will now become more vigilant and intransigent on this matter, with a lot of monitoring and restrictions.
First, we will introduce more borders controls in order to stop poachers from entering our country: we will register all the incoming members of UBN and ask them the purpose of their journey in
Novustika (holiday, work, study...). Then we will put hidden cameras all over the zones where endangered animals live, without damaging the wild territory. Furthermore, we will increase the monitoring of savannah with armed men in the bordering areas, where there are connections with the streets and where the experts think that most of the poachers arrive.
Novustika will from now on be aggressive towards those criminals, because we can’t permit anyone to ruin our territory and our precious animals so important to our culture.
We also ask you, Novustika’s inhabitants, to fight with us in order to stop this cruelty: if you suspect anyeone, if you see or know something important for our research, don’t hesitate to call the local police. Together we will help our wildlife live in prosperity!
